Then, in a crazy flash, Haumono’s 67-year-old father Maile, a former heavyweight boxer who sparred with Joe Frazier, whips off his shirt, jumps in the ring and begins hammering his son with left and right hooks.
Well-rested, Hopoate replaces a puffing Maile, and continues the assault.
This goes on for 15 gruelling rounds, and all the while Haumono’s trainer Marcus Johnson - a former sparring partner of Riddick Bowe - yells at his fighter to “show me more”, “grab his body”, and “move that head”.
